Giveaway!

I am honored to be featured on The Vintage Sheet Blog today!  It's one of my daily reads, so inspiring.

There's also a giveaway over there, for a pair of booties or a gift certificate to the Dishcloth Diva shop.  So hurry on over and follow the instructions to win!

Oh, and here's a little project I've been working on:

I finally got around to covering my grandmother's old foot stool.  It was absolute junk, but I kept it because of the memories.  She always used it when she would crochet, and now I do.  My husband hated it.  But now he has agreed to stop griping about it, since it is no longer ugly.  I think it's rather charming.

2012 Home Goals

Today is Nesting Place's 2012 Home Goals Party.

My goals are:

1.  New flooring in the kitchen
I don't know who thought it would be a good idea to carpet the kitchen, but that needs to change.  It's on the agenda for this weekend.  I'll post pics when we are finished.

2. Paint!  almost every room in the house needs paint.
3. Basement - less storage, more usable space
4.  Raised garden beds in the back yard

I don't have any pictures to add to this post, but I will have plenty of pictures of the work as it progresses.

Just so this post isn't a boring all-words-no-eyecandy post, here's a pic of my little sweetie:

Daddy was trying to teach her to go down the stairs on her behind, but she had no interest in learning.  She wanted to sit on the stairs and make funny faces for Mommy.

Just look at that staircase.  An embarrassment, I tell you!  One of the areas that so desperately needs a fresh coat of paint, and a bit of decorating.

Oliver

This is Oliver.  He joined our family at Christmas.  The oldest daughter wanted a puppy, and I agreed.  With the stipulation that the new puppy had to be a little tiny lap dog.

The ad said he was a yorkie poodle mix.   He does not seem to be either.  His origin remains a mystery.  Do you have any ideas what kind of dog we ended up with?  I would love to hear your guesses.

Either way, the entire family is smitten.  It took me a day or two longer than the rest of the family, but even I am in love.  He is the sweetest little guy, and Charlotte (our rat terrier) adores him.  So he is part of the family.

Favorite Vegetable

Tongue in Cheek asked about our favorite vegetable.  Mine is zucchini.  I could eat zucchini every single day.  A drizzle of olive oil, bake at 425 for 20 minutes or so, then a quick sprinkle of parmesan.  yum!  I could (and have) eat that for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

What's your favorite veggie?

House rules

The paintings are by a children's book artist, Steffie Lerch.  I love them.

This is my little office space.  It's nothing more than a desk and a bookshelf (which you can't see, it's to the right) in my living room, but it's my space.  Nobody else is allowed in there.

It's funny how incredibly happy this little space makes me.  The tv can be blaring, the kids can be noisy, but if I'm in my space I feel peaceful.

Blogging

I'm going to call my blog Smith House Circus, because that perfectly describes my world.  Hello, I'm Stephanie.  I'm wife to an awesome, and equally creative guy, and mom to 15 year old and 15 month old girls.  We have a cat, a rat terrier, and a puppy.  Life can get pretty crazy around here.  It's our own little circus.  But we love it, and we wouldn't have it any other way.
